Wild Rice
Wild Rice
Wild rice is a highly nutritious alternative to traditional white and brown rice. It contains twice the protein as brown rice per serving and is an excellent source of Manganese and other essential vitamins and minerals. It is also gluten free!
To enjoy this delicious food, rinse the wild rice well before cooking. Water-to-rice ratios vary, but you’ll generally want three to four cups of water for every cup of rice. You can also substitute water for stock. Feel free to add any seasonings at this point.
Bring to a boil in a saucepan, reduce heat, and simmer until the rice is tender, around 45 minutes. It should not be crunchy or tough. If you see the grains beginning to split along the sides, the wild rice is done. Fluff with a fork and serve!
Wild rice is a versatile ingredient that can be used in a wide range of recipes such as soups, stews, stuffings, salads, baked goods, and even wild rice pudding!
